Upland Bird Project - resurrecting Oregon's once-great pheasant hunting is the goal of the Upland Bird Project. Habitat and access are key to accomplishing that goal. the Upland Bird Project is a collaboration of the ODFW's Access & Habitat Program, Oregon Hunter's Association, the Columbia Plateau Chapter of Pheasants Forever, and the Foundation. The success of this effort turns on the participation of farmers and ranchers. Hundreds of thousands of acres currently enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) can be, with the addition of grains, forbs, and cover plants, ideal pheasant habitat. Our collaborative will improve habitat on CRP acreage with little or no out-of-pocket cost to the landowner. All that we ask is that those acres be opened to hunting; with or without enrollment in the state's Upland Cooperative Access Program. A portion of the net proceeds from the Columbia Sportswear Upland Bird Classic are dedicated to this project. Click here to purchase your tickets!
West Linn Dock - Construction of the replacement dock is nearly done and installation begins the week of July 6th! A dedication ceremony will be held in late August/early September.
About the Dock - Originally constructed in the late 1970's, this dock is located on the Willamette River near the highway 43 bridge. Built by the West Linn Paper Company as a catwalk for tying up barges, it was later converted to use as a public fishing dock. A popular place to fish, the dock has, over time, become unsafe to walk on or fish from. Despite that, hundreds of Oregon anglers fish from the dock for thousands of hours each year. We are raising the funds needed to replace this key facility with a contemporary design and using materials that resist biological growth, rot, corrosion. Kid's Fishing Camp - Do you know a young person who likes to fish or wants to learn how? Designed for beginning anglers, our campers learn the basics of fishing for cold and warm water fish while also participating in more traditional camp activities such as arts and crafts, archery, and hiking. An additional highlight for many kids is the 1/2 day raft trip down the lower Sandy River. Campships are typically available for families that need some help with camp fee. Check back in January for information and registration materials for our 2011 camp - click here to learn more or make a gift in support of this program.
Firsthand Oregon - Itchin to get outside? Join a field trip led by an ODFW biologist and learn more about Oregon's fish, wildlife, and natural areas firsthand! Click here to learn more and register yourself and others for a trip in northwest Oregon!
Spring Speaker Series - Biologists from the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife discuss Oregon wildlife in a lecture style format followed by a question/answer session. Our 2010 program introduced Oregonians to Shira's moose, gray wolf, greater sage grouse, pronghorn antelope, Columbian white-tailed deer, and black bear. We are making plans for the 2011 speaker series. If you joined us at one of those talks, we'd appreciate your feedback - Click here to take survey
